Year 10 work experience opportunity with the Wellcome Sanger Institute

Date: 1 May 2024

An opportunity for Year 10 students to undertake a two-week work experience placement with the Wellcome Sanger Institute’s core sequencing team, on the Wellcome Genome Campus.

Location: Wellcome Genome Campus, Hinxton, CB10 1SA (click for map)

Dates: Monday 17  – Friday 28 June 2024

Would you like to gain experience in our core sequencing pipeline and follow the route of a sample entering the facility?

Starting with sample preparation, where samples are received through the two main streams of work (short read technology and long read technology), and on to the newest short read sequencing technologies.  You will see technological advances which have helped reach the miles stones through the Institutes journey from sequencing C. elegans and the 1st human genome completed in 13 years to the most up do date sequencers which can read ~80 Human genomes in 48 hours.  See and participate (where appropriate) in the steps the sample must go through and interact with the automation which allows us to process the vast quantity of samples we achieve on a weekly basis, while maintaining high quality data and low failure rates.
