Genomics is a rapidly developing field of research, which is relevant to healthcare, drug development, tracking infectious diseases, tracing ancestry, solving crime, recording biodiversity, monitoring ecosystem biodiversity and many other expanding areas.
There are a wide range of career opportunities in this dynamic field that use a variety of skills, and many new job descriptions are being developed.
During the Genomic Futures insight day, you will experience the journey from sample collection to data output. Learning through practical experience and from professionals, you will explore the laboratories, facilities, technical skills and career opportunities at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. Hear about cutting-edge research, use micropipettes, get hands-on with gel electrophoresis and discover the fascinating world of bioinformatics.
You will also get the opportunity to meet a range of different staff members working in this field.

We place inclusion, equity, and social justice, at the centre of our work. We therefore prioritise our in-person support for schools in areas of high deprivation, with a high proportion of students in receipt of pupil premium, and in areas of low social mobility. Due to the high number of requests for in-person activities, we will review each request on a case-by-case basis, with priority being given to those schools in underserved communities.
