We have an exciting opportunity for a Digital Marketing Officer to join our small, hard-working, ambitious, and friendly Marketing and Communications team, at Wellcome Connecting Science.

Wellcome Connecting Science is part of the Wellcome Sanger Institute, funded by Wellcome, and based on the Wellcome Genome Campus, in Cambridgeshire. Our mission is to enable everyone to explore genomic science and its impact on research, health and society, through a varied programme of learning, training and engagement.

About the role:

You will channel your creativity, and use your excellent communication and organisational skills, to support the delivery of marketing and communications activities across our programme. You will work closely with three Marketing and Communications Managers, who lead on campaigns that reach a wide range of audiences, including; researchers, healthcare professionals, educators, learners, peers, staff on Campus, and the general public.

You will plan, create and schedule engaging social media content, support regular email newsletter creation, manage a defined set of social media accounts, and use relevant tools and templates to create promotional digital assets, which are in-keeping with our brand and house style.

You will also help to keep our web content up-to-date, support with proofreading, organise images and digital assets, support our internal communications activities, and support the analysis of digital campaigns.

As part of your varied role, you will collaborate with colleagues across Wellcome Connecting Science and the wider Wellcome Sanger Institute, to share and gather information, and create content that showcases our world-leading staff and facilities, and highlights the life-changing science and innovation that happens on Campus.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

Essential skills:

  • Demonstrable understanding and experience of different social media platforms, creating effective formats (including video), and generating engagement with different audiences.
  • Demonstrable copywriting skills, using a style guide, to produce interesting, relevant and engaging content.
  • Confident in the use of basic design tools to ensure assets are brand compliant (e.g. updating templates).
  • Ability to build effective working relationships based on trust and communication with colleagues.
  • Able to prioritise tasks and activities, managing time efficiently.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring marketing outputs are accurate and consistent across copy and design.
  • Experience of using a content management system (such as WordPress) to edit websites.
  • Good awareness and understanding of email marketing platforms such as DotDigital or MailChimp.
  • Knowledge and awareness of the potential different marketing approaches and goals in the not-for-profit sector (e.g. university, charity, government).

Ideal skills:

  • Experience of using design tools, such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
  • Experience of planning and running paid-for social media campaigns.
  • Knowledge and experience of GA4 data and reporting.
  • Enthusiasm for science and research.
